Life-threatening Flash Flooding Hits Southern U.S. Amid Post-Tropical Storm Arthur
US · Published Jun 18, 2026
Post-Tropical Storm Arthur is causing widespread, life-threatening flash flooding across the southern United States.
According to FOX Weather, rainfall totals are expected to reach 5 to 8 inches across Southern Texas to Alabama, with localized amounts of 8 to 12 inches in Louisiana.

Why It's Important?

The flooding poses significant risks to life and property, particularly in areas such as Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Jackson, Mississippi; Montgomery, Alabama; and Atlanta, Georgia. The heavy rainfall has already caused tragic incidents, including the drowning of a 15-year-old in Texas. Low-lying areas, roads, and neighborhoods are at high risk of inundation. Tornadoes in coastal areas of Mississippi and Alabama add to the danger. The prolonged nature of the rainfall increases the likelihood of catastrophic flooding, especially in regions with saturated ground or poor drainage.
